Langkawi, renowned for its breathtaking landscapes and rich cultural heritage, solidified its status as a premier island destination at the inaugural Langkawi International Tourism Engagement (LITE) 2024.
Hosted by the Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) from 7 to 9 August at Berjaya Langkawi Resort, this landmark event attracted over 100 tourism stakeholders and international travel agencies, including key players from Dubai and India.
Langkawi’s LITE 2024: A platform for global collaboration
LITE 2024 brought together an impressive array of tourism industry professionals, government officials, and strategic partners.
Supported by the Ministry of Finance Malaysia, the event featured prominent partners like Tourism Malaysia, Berjaya Langkawi Resort, Langkawi Book, and Heavenly Travel Sdn Bhd.
The event aimed to showcase Langkawi’s extraordinary offerings and foster new opportunities for collaboration and growth within the tourism sector.
During the three-day event, attendees engaged in business-to-business (B2B) meetings, strategic negotiations, and insightful discussions with tourism businesses, hotels, resorts, and airlines.
These sessions were designed to foster trade and investment, opening new avenues for promoting Langkawi in global markets.
LITE 2024 served as a significant platform for networking, with locally registered travel agencies, destination management companies (DMCs), and travel-related companies connecting with 60 hosted buyers from international travel agencies across Dubai, Singapore, Thailand, India, Pakistan, and Indonesia.
LITE 2024: A game-changer for Langkawi’s tourism sector
LADA’s CEO, Dato Haslina Abdul Hamid, emphasised the importance of LITE 2024 in propelling Langkawi into the global spotlight.
“We believe LITE 2024 is a game-changer, showcasing Langkawi’s unparalleled beauty and offerings.
By bringing together key players in the tourism industry, we aim to create synergies that will drive sustainable growth and position Langkawi as a must-visit destination on the global stage,” she stated.
The event not only highlighted Langkawi’s natural beauty and luxurious accommodations but also facilitated discussions on the island’s tourism management, marketing, and sustainability efforts.
LITE 2024’s success is expected to significantly expand Langkawi’s global reach, opening new markets and attracting a broader audience of international tourists.
In addition to networking and business sessions, LADA organised Familiarisation (Fam) Trips, allowing attendees to experience firsthand Langkawi’s world-class attractions, from the Kilim Karst Geoforest Park to the Machinchang Cambrian Geoforest Park.
These excursions provided participants with a deeper understanding of Langkawi’s unique offerings, further enhancing the island’s appeal as a top-tier travel destination.
Since being designated as a UNESCO Global Geopark in 2007, Langkawi has been at the forefront of sustainable tourism in the region.
The island’s Geopark status, highlighted by attractions like the Kilim Karst Geoforest Park and Dayang Bunting Marble Geoforest Park, has played a crucial role in its tourism strategy.
Langkawi has successfully retained its ‘green card’ status through multiple re-assessments, with the most recent revalidation in 2023.
As Langkawi continues its journey towards validation in 2027, LADA remains committed to safeguarding, protecting, and conserving the island’s natural treasures.
The success of LITE 2024 underscores Langkawi’s dedication to sustainable growth and its ambition to remain a leading destination in the global tourism landscape.
