The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) Malaysia’s Celebrating Excellence 2024 event brought together members, Authorised Training Providers (ATEs), and Partners-in-Learning (PiLs) to honour top Malaysian students who have excelled in ICAEW examinations.
The event also celebrated students who have completed externally moderated degrees at Universiti Malaya, Universiti Sains Malaysia, and Multimedia University, alongside other educational institutions. This annual event is a significant occasion, recognizing the achievements of students who are on the path to becoming future chartered accountants, vital to building strong and sustainable economies.
The event was graced by prominent ICAEW senior members, including renowned business leaders and influential personalities, who reaffirmed their commitment to fostering excellence in the accounting profession. The ICAEW Members’ Society Malaysian Chapter, along with patrons of a trust dedicated to developing leaders equipped with the prestigious ICAEW ACA qualification, played a key role in the ceremony. The Advanced and Professional Level Malaysian Prizes, awarded during the event, were supported by these leaders, emphasizing their dedication to nurturing the next generation of accountants.
Top students receive prestigious awards
This year, six ICAEW Malaysia Prizes for the Advanced Level exams were awarded to students currently employed at top accounting firms such as PwC, KPMG, and Deloitte. These high-achieving students were honoured with certificates, prizes, and 24k gold-plated medals, under the patronage of Fellow Chartered Accountants Tan Sri Dato’ Hanafiah Hussain, Datuk Ali Abdul Kadir, and the late Tan Sri Azlan Zainol.
Additionally, 26 ICAEW Professional Level Prizes were awarded by other prominent figures from the ICAEW Members’ Society Malaysian Chapter, recognizing the outstanding efforts of these young professionals.
Supporting the future of the accounting profession
The ICAEW Members’ Society Malaysian Chapter emphasized the importance of recognizing students’ achievements through awards and prizes, which not only celebrate their success but also boost their confidence and reinforce values of dedication and perseverance.
Shenola Gonzales, Head of ICAEW Malaysia, emphasized the critical role of continuous support and inspiration from senior members and patrons in sustaining the accounting profession. “It represents our Malaysian Chapter giving back to future members. This is the essence of ICAEW and what sets us apart because the ICAEW training not only shapes you into an exemplary finance and business professional but also instils values that surface when needed.” Gonzales remarked.
Gonzales also underscored the strength of the partnership between ICAEW and its ATEs, which ensures that students receive both comprehensive education and practical experience. “The strong partnership between ICAEW and our ATEs also ensures our students receive both comprehensive education and practical experience, preparing them to become leaders in the profession,” she added.
In her closing remarks, Gonzales expressed ICAEW Malaysia’s dedication to contributing to the growth of the accounting profession in Malaysia, aligning with the government’s initiative to increase the number of professional accountants in the country to 60,000 by 2030.
