The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) today announced the completion of Datuk Ts. Mahadhir Aziz’s successful three-year tenure as CEO, which will conclude on 31 August 2024.
As he steps down to pursue new challenges, MDEC prepares for a new chapter, building on the solid foundation laid during his transformative leadership.
Strategic leadership and milestones in MDEC
Under Datuk Mahadhir’s leadership, MDEC solidified its position as a frontrunner in Malaysia’s digital ecosystem.
Since assuming the role in September 2021, he played a crucial role in expanding MDEC’s reach into new and emerging markets.
One of his notable achievements was securing over RM170 billion in digital investments, a milestone that significantly boosted the nation’s digital economy.
“Datuk Mahadhir’s tenure has been marked by unprecedented growth and transformation,” MDEC stated.
His strategic vision was instrumental in the transition of the MSC initiative into Malaysia Digital (MD), a move that redefined the nation’s digital landscape.
Additionally, he spearheaded the launch of key national programmes, including the digital nomad visa, which further positioned Malaysia as a global digital hub.
Future-ready initiatives and legacy
Mahadhir’s leadership saw MDEC surpass critical targets, such as the adoption of e-Commerce by over 1.5 million micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
His efforts also led to the recording of RM144 billion in digitalisation investments, reflecting MDEC’s strong commitment to driving Malaysia’s digital economy forward.
As Mahadhir transitions to new opportunities, MDEC remains focused on its strategic goals.
To ensure continuity, a Management Council has been established to oversee the CEO’s responsibilities during the interim period until a new leader is appointed.
The Board and Management have expressed their gratitude for Mahadhir’s significant contributions and dedication, ensuring a smooth transition.
