Ipoh drives green urban growth with new approval process

The city of Ipoh is advancing its urban planning and infrastructure with the introduction of the New 3.0 Plus Development Plan Approval Process.

This initiative, discussed at a recent briefing at the Ipoh Convention Centre, aims to streamline the development plan approval process for local authorities in Selangor and Perak.

Ar. Zuhairi bin Manaf, Deputy Director General of the Department of Local Government, officiated the event, highlighting Ipoh’s commitment to sustainable development.

The collaboration between Ipoh City Council and other local authorities aligns with the government’s vision to enhance efficiency in the construction and development sectors, positioning Ipoh as a leader in innovative urban planning.

Streamlining development plans

The briefing at the Ipoh Convention Centre, which gathered key municipal figures such as Dato’ Rumaizi bin Baharin@Md Daud, the Mayor of Ipoh, focused on new initiatives to minimise delays in development plan approvals.

These efforts align with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s directive to accelerate development across Malaysia.

Central to the discussions was the 3.0 Plus Development Plan, an initiative aimed at refining and speeding up approval processes for construction and infrastructure projects.

The plan involves local councils across Malaysia, including those from Seberang Perai, Melaka, and Kuantan, with the One-Stop Centre (OSC) playing a pivotal role since its establishment in 2007.

The briefing also provided local authorities with a platform to gather feedback, fostering collaboration between municipalities, developers, and technical agencies.

This integrated approach is essential to realising the government’s goal of speeding up the development process while maintaining high service delivery standards.

Ipoh: A rising star in tourism and heritage

Beyond its strides in urban planning, Ipoh is gaining recognition as a key tourism destination in Malaysia.

Known for its cultural heritage, the city is home to attractions like Gunung Lang and Tasik Cermin, drawing both local and international visitors.

Ipoh’s popularity was further boosted when its iconic “Ipoh White Coffee” was named one of the top 10 best coffees in the world by Taste Atlas, putting the city firmly on the global map.

The city was also highlighted in the “Cuti-Cuti Malaysia” campaign, which recognises destinations with high domestic tourist traffic.

This recognition underscores Ipoh’s unique blend of natural beauty, culinary fame, and rich history, making it a magnet for travellers.

The collaboration between the Department of Local Government and the Ipoh City Council reflects a commitment to improving not just infrastructure but the overall quality of life for its residents and visitors.
