Transforming Sabah’s healthcare landscape
The grand opening of the European Wellness New Premier Center was a prestigious event, drawing international attention and a host of dignitaries.
Among the attendees were Sabah’s Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Bin Haji Noor, and the State Minister of Finance, Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Masidi Manjun, alongside other global leaders such as Dr. Khalid Abdulla Mubarak, Advisor to the President of the UAE.
Hajiji praised the vision behind European Wellness, stating, “This facility is a game-changer for Sabah, combining state-of-the-art medical science with our unique natural environment.
It not only strengthens our local healthcare sector but also boosts Sabah’s standing on the global medical tourism map.”
The European Wellness New Premier Center represents a substantial investment by its founders, Prof. Dato’ Sri Dr. Mike Chan and Prof. Dato’ Sri Dr. Michelle Wong, who aim to integrate advanced medical technology with the natural healing qualities of Sabah.
The centre is set to offer over 60 regenerative medicine and holistic wellness therapies, positioning itself as a leader in cutting-edge healthcare.
Sabah’s role in global medical wellness tourism
The establishment of the European Wellness New Premier Center aligns with Sabah’s broader goals of becoming a global hub for advanced healthcare and medical wellness tourism.
Leveraging its strategic location in Southeast Asia, within the BIMP-EAGA and ASEAN regions, Sabah is poised to attract significant international investment and talent.
“We are positioning Sabah at the forefront of the global health and wellness revolution,”Hajiji noted.
“This investment reflects our commitment to enhancing life quality and fostering international collaboration in medical innovation.”
Dr. Khalid Abdulla Mubarak emphasised the global importance of this facility, noting, “The advancements showcased here are truly groundbreaking.
Prof. Chan’s work in targeted organ-specific stem cell therapy is set to revolutionise regenerative medicine, improving healthcare outcomes worldwide.”
The centre not only seeks to transform local healthcare but also aims to make advanced treatments like stem cell therapy more accessible.
“Currently, stem cell therapy is costly and limited in availability,” Dr. Khalid added.
“Expanding access and reducing costs are crucial steps to making these life-changing treatments available to a broader population.”
With over 300 professionals and cutting-edge technology, the European Wellness New Premier Center is just one part of European Wellness’ larger expansion plan.
The organisation is also planning to establish a biopharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park, with an investment of USD 80 million.
This will double the workforce, further boosting Sabah’s healthcare capabilities and economic standing in the global market.
