The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has once again led the way in digital empowerment with its 19th edition of the Saya Digital Tour (JSD) for 2024, held from 21 to 22 September at Semantan Walk, Bandar Sri Semantan, Temerloh.

Co-organised with Pahang Go Sdn Bhd, the two-day event drew nearly 2,000 visitors, focusing on enhancing digital literacy and preparing Malaysians for the evolving digital economy.

As the nation’s key digital economy agency, MDEC’s initiatives are closely aligned with the Ministry of Digital’s pillars of Digital Government, Digital Economy, and Digital Society.

The Saya Digital Tour, which began in 2020, aims to upskil Malaysians and help them embrace the opportunities presented by the digital world.

At the heart of the programme is the Pahang Digital Plan 2021-2025, which aspires to transform Pahang into a vibrant economic hub.

The plan prioritises digital technology adoption to attract high-value investments and create well-paying jobs for local talent.

Speaking about the initiative, Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh, Chairman of MDEC, shared, “MDEC’s efforts through JSD not only support economic growth but also help Malaysians—especially those from the B40 group—become active contributors to the digital economy.”

The Saya Digital Tour 2024 focuses on four key areas: Digital Literacy, Digital Business, Digital Freelance, and Digital Careers.

These pillars are particularly aimed at benefiting B40 communities, unemployed graduates, the elderly, persons with disabilities (OKU), and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

MDEC has set an ambitious goal of reaching 40,000 participants across 31 locations this year.

So far, 37,891 individuals across Malaysia have already participated, including 1,004 from Pahang. Key programmes like eUsahawan and MyDigitalMaker were highlighted at the event.

To date, the eUsahawan programme has helped over 564,629 students and entrepreneurs nationwide generate cumulative sales exceeding RM1.26 billion, including RM46.61 million in Pahang alone.

“This initiative offers more than just digital skills. It gives participants the tools to navigate the challenges of today’s digital economy and improve their livelihoods,” added Syed Ibrahim.

MDEC also hosted a Cybersecurity Awareness session led by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to raise awareness about online safety, ensuring participants are equipped to navigate the digital space securely.

The event also featured a wide range of entertainment, from karaoke competitions to lucky draws, catering to all ages and interests.
