Batik Air is set to launch a new direct route between Penang and Jakarta starting 1 October, offering daily flights to enhance connectivity between Malaysia and Indonesia.
This service aims to provide convenience for both business travellers and vacationers.
Strengthening Malaysia-Indonesia connections
The introduction of the new Penang-Jakarta route is expected to boost bilateral relations between Malaysia and Indonesia.
According to Batik Air’s CEO, Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy, the new route responds to market demand for more accessible travel options.
“This will make it easier for Indonesian visitors to travel to Penang, particularly for medical treatment,” Datuk Chandran stated.
With over 160,000 visitors from Indonesia in 2023 alone, Indonesia remains a key market for Penang.
Many professionals and families are drawn to the island’s vibrant culture, diverse food offerings, and various festivals, making it a popular destination for Indonesian travellers.
Batik Air supporting tourism growth
The new Penang-Jakarta route is part of Batik Air’s larger strategy to meet the growing demand for air travel in the region.
Penang International Airport continues to see a surge in tourist arrivals, with Indonesia being the top contributor.
In 2023, Penang welcomed 163,187 visitors from Indonesia, followed by Singapore (74,800), Taiwan (15,602), and China (13,029), according to the state’s Tourism and Creative Economy Agency.
The daily flights between Penang International Airport and Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta Airport will be operated using Boeing 737 aircraft, offering passengers two seating categories for a comfortable journey.
As Batik Air continues to expand its services, the new Penang-Jakarta route is set to strengthen travel links, boost tourism, and make medical travel easier for Indonesian visitors.
With daily flights and a focus on convenience, Batik Air is committed to offering a seamless travel experience for passengers in both countries.
