The Petronas Le Tour de Langkawi will continue its 2024 edition tomorrow with Stage 3, prompting road closures and diversions in and around Ipoh city to ensure smooth traffic flow and safety.

The stage, which starts in Taiping, Perak, and finishes in Cameron Highlands, covers a challenging distance of 170.3 kilometers, featuring three sprint zones and three climbing zones.

Ipoh District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner (ACP) Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad, confirmed the closures would take place between 12 PM and 2 PM on Tuesday.

The closure affect roads from the traffic lights at Infoternak Sungai Siput to the Pahang border.

The Petronas Le Tour de Langkawi race will see its third stage traverse notable locations in Perak, including Kuala Kangsar and Ipoh, before culminating in the scenic Cameron Highlands.

Kuala Kangsar District Police Chief ACP Heisham Harun detailed the closures, stating that traffic would be diverted between 11 AM and noon.

Roads affected include sections of Jalan Ipoh – Butterworth, Jalan Raja Idris, and routes around Kuala Kangsar Hospital, all of which will be closed in stages.

“To ensure a smooth race and safety for participants, vehicles will be redirected. Routes from Sungai Siput-Kledang will be diverted to Jalan Ipoh – Butterworth, while those from Taman Indah will take alternative paths through Kuala Kangsar town,” ACP Heisham explained.

With the race covering 170.3 kilometers, participants will face challenging terrains, including climbing zones in Kuala Kangsar, Kampung Raja, and Brinchang.

Meanwhile, sprint zones will be set in Kuala Kangsar, Sungai Siput, and Ipoh, promising an exciting display of athletic endurance for fans and spectators.

Stage 2 of the Petronas Le Tour de Langkawi saw outstanding performances, particularly from Spanish cyclist Matteo Malucelli of JCL Team Ukyo.

Malucelli clinched victory in the stage from Arau to Butterworth, crossing the finish line with an impressive time of 3 hours, 34 minutes, and 58 seconds.

He was closely followed by Manuel Penalver of Team Polti Kometa and Arvid de Kleijn from Tudor Pro Cycling Team, who finished in second and third places, respectively.

Local cycling enthusiasts had their eyes on Terengganu Cycling Team’s (TSG) star, Mohd Harrif Saleh, who emerged as the best Malaysian rider in Stage 2, securing a commendable seventh-place finish.
