Batik Air has announced the launch of three new routes connecting Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to Bintulu, Miri, and Sandakan, expanding its network and providing greater access to East Malaysia.
This move enhances convenience for both leisure and business travellers.
The Kuala Lumpur-Bintulu route will begin on 1st November 2024, followed by Kuala Lumpur-Sandakan on 1st December 2024, and Kuala Lumpur-Miri on 14th January 2025.
Batik Air is committed to supporting the region’s growing tourism industry and economic development, positioning these new routes as crucial for connecting West and East Malaysia.
Expanding travel to Bintulu, Miri, and Sandakan
With the launch of these new routes, Batik Air opens up key destinations in Sabah and Sarawak.
Bintulu, known for its role in Malaysia’s economy as a hub for Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) production and the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE), also offers outdoor adventures, serene escapes, and cultural experiences.
Visitors can explore the pristine beaches and rainforests of Similajau National Park, making it ideal for eco-travellers and families.
Miri, the birthplace of Malaysia’s oil and gas industry, is not only an industrial powerhouse but also a gateway to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Gunung Mulu National Park.
This vibrant city attracts both corporate travellers and those looking to experience its natural beauty and industrial opportunities.
Meanwhile, Sandakan is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts, offering access to the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, Turtle Islands Park, and the Kinabatangan River.
Sandakan’s mix of natural attractions, conservation efforts, and historical significance—such as the Sandakan Memorial Park—provides a unique travel experience.
Batik Air: Supporting East Malaysia’s growth
Batik Air Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy, highlighted the airline’s dedication to supporting the development of Sabah and Sarawak.
He noted the significant potential of Bintulu, Miri, and Sandakan as tourist destinations and industrial hubs.
“By launching these direct routes, Batik Air is strengthening connections between West and East Malaysia, supporting tourism and economic development in Sabah and Sarawak.
We are proud to offer more options for travellers and businesses, continuing our mission to expand our route network in support of Malaysia’s overall growth,” he said.
The new routes are designed to offer travellers greater flexibility.
The Kuala Lumpur-Bintulu route will operate ten times weekly, while the Kuala Lumpur-Miri and Kuala Lumpur-Sandakan routes will each operate 14 times weekly.
This frequency ensures convenient travel options for both business and leisure travellers.
Batik Air’s expanded services will not only boost tourism in Sabah and Sarawak but also strengthen economic ties by providing more efficient transportation links.
