Raya Airways launches key cargo route to Hong Kong

Raya Airways launches Penang-Hong Kong route, enhancing DHL’s Asia-Pacific network and positioning Penang as a premier air cargo hub.

Raya Airways Sdn. Bhd., a leading Malaysian cargo airline, has officially launched a new air cargo route between Penang and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), marking the inaugural flight on October 28, 2024. The service, which operates five times a week, is set to enhance DHL’s aviation network in the Asia-Pacific region.

This route, served by Raya Airways under a charter arrangement with DHL, adds to other ongoing charter routes between Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong SAR as well as Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.

Enhancing Penang’s role as a cargo hub

Raya Airways’ Group Managing Director, Mohamad Najib Ishak, expressed his optimism for this development, highlighting the longstanding partnership with DHL. “We are pleased to be given trust by DHL to support their growing network, which is a testimony to their market leadership. Throughout the 14 years of partnership between the parties, Raya has developed a robust operational infrastructure to support DHL’s time-definite business model,” Ishak noted. He added that this move also positions Penang as a crucial air cargo hub, leveraging the state’s high-end industrial presence.

The support from Malaysia Airport Holdings Berhad (MAHB), which operates the Penang International Airport, was also instrumental in this launch. Ishak acknowledged their cooperation, particularly under the leadership of Dato’ Mohd Izani Ghani, Managing Director of MAHB. “The Penang-Hong Kong route will not be possible without the strong support of Malaysia Airport Holdings Berhad as the airport operator, in providing the operation-critical arrangements,” Ishak said.

Expanding Raya Airways’ service portfolio

As one of Malaysia’s premier all-cargo airlines, Raya Airways offers comprehensive air freight solutions, including transportation, charter services, and ground handling. Since its inception in 1993, the airline has maintained scheduled and charter cargo services to major Asia-Pacific hubs such as China, Indonesia, Singapore, and Vietnam, as well as key commercial centers in East Malaysia, including Kota Kinabalu and Kuching.
