The Old La Sallian Association of Klang (OLAK) recently held its 32nd reunion dinner, celebrating decades of friendship, unity, and dedication to the La Sallian values. The event, hosted on October 26, 2024, at the Top Glove Ballroom in Setia Alam, drew nearly 600 alumni, former teachers, and friends.

With a theme of “Unity in Diversity,” the evening honored the enduring legacy of La Salle Klang while also casting an eye towards the future. The guest of honor, Member of Parliament for Selayang YB William Leong, a distinguished La Sallian himself, spoke passionately on the role of La Sallian values in nurturing responsible, engaged citizens.

Addressing these challenges, Leong encouraged attendees to remain vigilant and to actively counteract harmful narratives, underscoring the La Sallian commitment to truth and community responsibility.

Honoring OLAK’s legacy

Ho discussed recent efforts, including the rehabilitation of La Salle Klang’s school field to prevent flooding and the provision of smart TVs, musical instruments, and other resources to support the school’s educational environment. Reflecting on the night’s theme, Ho emphasized how La Sallian values of inclusivity and compassion continue to guide OLAK’s mission, expressing gratitude for the dedication of committee members and alumni.

Recognizing outstanding La Sallians

One of the evening’s high points was the presentation of awards to five La Sallians whose contributions to the community exemplify the La Sallian spirit. Honorees included Mr. Joseph De Silva for his work with youth hockey, Dato’ Yeo Kim Thong for four decades of service with St. John Ambulance, and Datuk Richard Phua Sin Mo for his support of school projects. These individuals exemplify the association’s values of service, humility, and commitment to the greater good.

President Ho concluded the night with the announcement of a new community initiative: the “Run For Fun, Raise The Funds!” fun run, scheduled for early 2025. The event aims to raise funds for La Salle Klang and invites participation from families and friends, further cementing OLAK’s role in supporting future generations of La Sallians.
