Kotex Malaysia concluded its inspiring #SheCan Fund campaign with a grand gesture, awarding RM105,000 to 11 young Malaysian women pursuing their dreams. The fund, which started as an extension of the brand’s Limited Edition #SheCanPeriodt campaign, celebrates women who are breaking barriers across various fields. The campaign attracted over 300 applicants from across the nation, with participants asked to share how their ambitions could inspire women’s progress and break societal barriers.
“Even today, women continue to face significant barriers in pursuing their dreams and ambitions, including societal stigmas that unfairly label us as weaker due to our periods,” said Ms. Sarah Chen, Senior Brand Manager of Kotex Malaysia. “With these insights, we initiated the #SheCanPeriodt campaign to challenge and dismantle these outdated perceptions.” Initially planning to award 10 recipients, the brand chose an additional winner due to the outstanding quality of submissions.
Talented ambassadors for women’s progress
The campaign invited a diverse array of applicants with goals ranging from excelling in sports to making strides in male-dominated industries such as tech and football. “Kotex is confident that the #SheCan Fund recipients of 2024 are on the precipice of great things,” Sarah added, sharing her admiration for the drive and passion shown by the applicants. Each winner received funds to further their pursuits, fostering a new generation of women leaders and changemakers.
Among the speakers at the awards ceremony was breakout singer Iman Troye, who shared her own journey of overcoming challenges with the help of mentors like her music teachers, Cikgu Johari and Cikgu Fatin. “Not everyone was supportive of me pursuing a career in singing, and there were many unkind comments thrown at me on social media,” Iman said. “But even when times were tough, I knew that I had to stay strong and keep showing up for myself.” Her story underscored the event’s message on resilience and belief in one’s potential.
Inspiring success stories
A panel discussion highlighted how support systems are crucial in helping young women reach their goals. Speakers, including Iman and #SheCan Fund alumna Nur Adzratull Iffah, underscored the impact of both financial and emotional support. Nur, who received the fund in 2019, shared that the support allowed her to teach special needs students in Jakarta, a dream she previously thought unattainable. “For me, the Kotex #SheCan Fund was more than just financial aid – it gave me a sense of purpose,” she said.
The event concluded with a stirring performance by Iman, who sang ‘Mimpi Iman,’ a song she composed for the campaign to inspire girls to overcome societal challenges. Kotex also collaborated with prominent Malaysian women, including national athletes and entertainers, to reinforce the message that every woman can push past obstacles. In tandem with the campaign, Kotex introduced a limited-edition Soft and Smooth pack featuring bold designs, encouraging women to pursue their goals confidently.
Through the #SheCan Fund, Kotex continues to champion young women, affirming that every step they take toward their dreams is a step toward breaking barriers for future generations.
