The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) is advancing digital literacy across Malaysia with the Saya Digital Roadshow (JSD), held at Aman Central in Alor Setar from 9-10 November.
This free two-day event aims to attract over 2,000 visitors and equip them with essential digital skills to thrive in the growing digital economy.
MDEC Saya Digital: Building a digital-ready Malaysia
MDEC, Malaysia’s premier digital economy agency under the Ministry of Digital, launched the Saya Digital Campaign in 2020 to drive digital empowerment.
“Saya Digital is a bridge to equip all Malaysians with the skills they need for our future digital economy,” MDEC’s Chief Corporate Services Officer, Amiruddin Abdul Shukor, said at the Alor Setar event.
Aligned with the Ministry of Digital’s key pillars—Digital Government, Digital Economy, and Digital Society—the roadshow focuses on four primary areas: Digital Literacy, Digital Business, Digital Freelancing, and Digital Careers.
These pillars are designed to foster a digitally empowered society, increase digital literacy, and attract high-value investments.
The campaign especially targets B40 income groups, unemployed graduates, senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWD), students, and micro, small, and medium entrepreneurs (MSMEs).
Transforming local economies through digital skills
At JSD @ Alor Setar, visitors can attend interactive sessions covering social media marketing, digital freelancing, and using platforms like TikTok to enhance MSME reach.
Popular local influencer Ajak Shiro will lead talks on positive social media practices, offering valuable insights for attendees.
“We hope to inspire entrepreneurs to leverage digital platforms, opening up new pathways to success,” said Shakib Ahmad Shakir, Deputy Secretary-General of the Ministry of Digital.
Participants can also engage with technology-sharing sessions on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and live eSports broadcasts, which showcase the role of tech in today’s learning and entertainment landscapes.
An enthusiastic crowd is expected, especially with Era FM’s Cruiser Crew adding to the event’s energy.
Positive impact and expanding reach of Saya Digital
Since Saya Digital’s launch, MDEC has reached over 55,000 Malaysians through online and in-person events, and this year aims to engage 40,000 participants across 31 locations.
Alor Setar is one of the many stops aimed at building digital skills at a community level.
The roadshow complements MDEC’s other digital education initiatives, such as eUsahawan and MyDigitalMaker.
Through eUsahawan, over 564,000 students from higher education and vocational institutions have gained digital business skills, achieving RM1.26 billion in sales, with Kedah-based entrepreneurs contributing over RM50 million.
Meanwhile, MyDigitalMaker has impacted over 2.5 million school students in digital-making activities, including 95,000 students from Kedah’s 450 schools.
MDEC collaborates with strategic partners, including the Kedah State Information and Communication Technology Division, PERKESO, JPJ, TM-Unifi Business, and MIMOS Berhad.
These partnerships strengthen the roadshow’s impact, bringing essential services and guidance to all participants.
As Kedah aims for high-income status by 2035, the Saya Digital Roadshow plays a critical role in preparing its residents for a future driven by technology.
The roadshow in Alor Setar is an essential step towards achieving a more inclusive digital economy for Malaysia.
