The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) recently celebrated the achievements of Cohort 3 from its Digital Tourism Innovation Lab (DTIL), a programme aimed at accelerating digital transformation in Malaysia’s tourism industry.

This year’s DTIL event showcased innovative pitches from tourism technology startups, each proposing solutions to redefine the future of Malaysian tourism.

MDEC’s initiative aligns closely with the Ministry of Digital’s vision to position Malaysia as a leader in digital advancements across Southeast Asia.

Held at Common Ground Bukit Bintang, the DTIL event was attended by leaders from Malaysia’s tourism and digital sectors.

Representatives from the Ministry of Digital presented certificates to the 24 participating companies, recognising their contributions to advancing Malaysia’s tourism ecosystem.

Several participants have already secured funding from angel investors and venture capitalists, while others have seen significant revenue growth and regional expansion.

Since DTIL’s inception, over 117 startups have applied, with 24 companies selected across three cohorts.

Each selected startup embarks on an intensive eight-week programme featuring mentorship, funding opportunities, and access to state-of-the-art facilities.

“DTIL is an incredible opportunity for tourism startups to transform the industry.

Our mission is to equip these companies with the tools and guidance they need to make a real impact on tourism in Malaysia,” said an MDEC representative.

Through collaboration with industry experts, DTIL participants work on cutting-edge solutions that address industry needs, enhance the tourist experience, and support local communities.
