APU empowers Tamil schools with AI innovation

The Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation (APU), recognised as a Premier Digital Tech University in Malaysia, recently showcased its dedication to nurturing young tech talent by hosting the National-Level AI Competition for Tamil schools.

Held on 12th January 2025, this unique initiative introduced 90 eager participants to the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) while sparking creativity and problem-solving skills.

This event not only highlighted APU’s leadership in digital education but also demonstrated its commitment to empowering communities by creating opportunities for young learners to engage with cutting-edge technology.

Inspiring young minds with creative challenges

The AI competition featured two engaging segments: AI Short Film Creation and PowerPoint AI Presentation.

These activities encouraged students to explore innovative ways to integrate AI into creative projects.

In the short film segment, participants focused on crafting impactful stories using AI tools, with judges evaluating clarity, originality, and innovation.

Meanwhile, the PowerPoint presentations showcased themes with visual flair, coherence, and attention to detail, reflecting the students’ grasp of AI’s potential.

Through these tasks, students gained hands-on experience with AI, which many had not encountered before.

This approach allowed them to connect technology with real-world applications, igniting their passion for learning and innovation.

APU’s commitment to empowering Tamil schools

Supporting this competition was part of APU’s broader Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

By sponsoring the venue, meals, parking, and lab facilities, APU removed barriers for participation, ensuring students could focus on learning and growing.

The event was organised by APU’s School of Technology (SoT) and judged by an esteemed panel, including Associate Professor Dr Selvakumar Samuel, Dr Kohila Malar, and Ts Umapathy Eaganathan.

Their collective expertise ensured a fair and enriching experience for all participants.

At the awards ceremony, APU’s Chief Operating Officer, Mr Gurpardeep Singh, presented prizes to the winners.
