JAECOO J7 PHEV debuts with advanced Super Hybrid System

As Malaysia steadily transitions towards sustainable automotive energy, hybrid vehicles are emerging as the middle ground for consumers who remain uncertain about fully electric vehicles (EVs). In response to this, JAECOO Malaysia has introduced the JAECOO J7 PHEV, a premium plug-in hybrid SUV designed to offer a seamless transition into new energy mobility.

With the inclusion of the Super Hybrid System (SHS), the J7 PHEV is designed to optimize both fuel efficiency and performance while offering the convenience of electric driving when needed. “The Super Hybrid System (SHS) with its best-in-class technology and performance is what we believe enhances Malaysia’s vibrant hybrid vehicle landscape and creates room for competitive growth. Essentially, we’re happy to provide greater options to drivers looking to make the transition to hybrid mobility, in support of Malaysia’s energy transition ambitions,” added Lek.

Performance and Efficiency Redefined

At the heart of the J7 PHEV’s performance is JAECOO’s Super Hybrid System, which consists of three key components:

1. 5th Generation 1.5L Turbocharged Gasoline Direct Injection Engine – The Dedicated Hybrid Engine (DHE) delivers 141hp and 215Nm of torque, leveraging advanced technologies such as the Deep Miller cycle, intelligent lubricating system, smart thermal management, and an exhaust gas recirculation system to enhance fuel efficiency.
2. Dedicated Hybrid Transmission – The single-speed hybrid transmission allows the SUV to operate as an electric vehicle at low speeds and even when idling, ensuring fuel is only used when necessary. With an electromagnetic clutch, the engine seamlessly engages when additional power is needed, enabling the J7 PHEV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 8.5 seconds despite its 1,795 kg weight.
3. High Voltage (HV) Battery – The 18.3 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery supports fast DC charging, recharging from 30% to 80% in just 20 minutes. Rated for up to 1 million km, the battery is puncture-proof, dust-resistant, and water-resistant (IP68 rating), ensuring longevity and safety even under extreme Malaysian weather conditions.

With these three components, the JAECOO J7 PHEV can travel up to 1,300 km on a single tank and charge (NEDC range), with a pure electric range of 106 km and a class-leading fuel consumption of just 4.77L/100 km in a depleted state.

Smart Features for Modern Lifestyles

Designed with a distinctive identity, the J7 PHEV stands apart from its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart with several notable exterior features. Its hero colour is Olive Grey, complemented by 19” Aero Rims and aerodynamic side mirrors. At the rear, exhaust tips are concealed, while a standout feature is the Cinema Tonneau Cover, which transforms into a screen for outdoor entertainment when used with a projector.

The J7 PHEV is available in three colours – Khaki White, Carbon Crystal Black, and Moonlight Silver. The Khaki White edition is limited to just 100 units in Malaysia, after which an Olive Grey variant will be introduced.

Inside, JAECOO has redesigned the cabin for simplicity and functionality, including the relocation of the gear knob to a column-mounted shifter, creating more space in the centre console. Additionally, the J7 PHEV offers fully customizable drive modes, allowing drivers to choose between full EV mode or hybrid mode based on driving conditions.

For added convenience, the Vehicle to Load (V2L) capability provides 3.3 kW of external power, enabling users to charge devices or power small appliances while on the go.

Pricing, Warranty, and Early Bird Promotions

At the launch event, JAECOO Malaysia announced that the J7 PHEV Premium SUV (2WD) is priced at RM158,800. The vehicle comes with a seven-year engine warranty (or up to 150,000 km mileage) and an eight-year battery and powertrain warranty (or up to 160,000 km mileage).

A special early bird package is available for all existing bookings and new orders placed before March 2, 2025. Eligible customers will receive an extended 10-year warranty (or up to 1,000,000 km mileage) on both the engine and high-voltage battery, showcasing JAECOO’s confidence in the durability of its Super Hybrid System. Additionally, all J7 PHEVs under this promotion will come with a complimentary V2L charger.
