DBKL, SRSB launch affordable homes in Sentul

Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL), in collaboration with Sentul Raya Sdn. Bhd. (SRSB), a subsidiary of YTL Land and Development Sdn Bhd, has launched Residensi Kecapi, an affordable housing development in Sentul. The initiative is designed to benefit the B40 group and aligns closely with the Government’s National Housing Policy to provide dignified, quality homes to lower-income urban dwellers.

The event, officiated by YB Datuk Seri Dr. Zaliha Mustafa, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), marked a dual milestone — the opening of Residensi Kecapi and the announcement of the upgraded Bintang Cemerlang 2.0 education programme. Both programmes aim to create sustainable improvements in housing and education for Sentul’s public housing community.

Residensi Kecapi comprises 250 housing units priced at RM42,000 each — a cost far below actual construction values. The full subsidy is borne by SRSB, reflecting a significant private sector investment in community upliftment. The homes are part of a wider masterplan to rejuvenate the Sentul area, address urban decay, and foster a more inclusive living environment.

“This is not just about building homes or launching a programme — it’s about restoring dignity, creating opportunity, and delivering hope,” said Datuk Seri Dr. Zaliha. “Ensuring access to quality housing, especially for lower-income families, is a key part of our national agenda. It lays the foundation for stronger, more stable communities. This is the true spirit of Malaysia Madani — compassionate, inclusive, and focused on putting people first.”

Elevating education for Sentul youth

Alongside the housing initiative, SRSB introduced Bintang Cemerlang 2.0, an enhanced version of its education enrichment programme aimed at primary school children in Sentul’s public housing areas. Building on the success of its predecessor — which has impacted over 107,500 individuals since 2008 — the new programme is expected to benefit 23 primary schools and broaden its reach.

Bintang Cemerlang 2.0 offers a more holistic learning experience, integrating academic support, creative exploration, physical wellness, and teacher training. The programme is uniquely designed to complement formal education by addressing the broader developmental needs of children, while equipping teachers with the tools to better support their students.

A holistic approach to community building

The pairing of Residensi Kecapi and Bintang Cemerlang 2.0 underscores a comprehensive model of community development that extends beyond infrastructure. By providing both affordable housing and educational opportunities, the collaboration addresses two critical needs of B40 families — shelter and growth.

In her closing remarks, Datuk Seri Dr. Zaliha called on more private entities to emulate SRSB’s approach and contribute to the inclusive growth of Kuala Lumpur.

“Let us walk forward together, public and private sector, to build a Kuala Lumpur that is modern and inclusive. One that belongs to everyone, not just the privileged few,” she said.
