Malaysia has chalked up a major win in the regional immersive technology arena, with the flagship IMMERSE KL x CelcomDigi 2025 generating more than RM1 million in tech opportunities and signalling the nation’s rising dominance in XR innovation.
The two-day showcase, organised by the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) in collaboration with CelcomDigi, brought together 555 local and international participants, 32 exhibitors, and 25 speakers, making it a record-setting gathering for the country’s creative tech sector.
“IMMERSE KL x CelcomDigi 2025 reaffirms Malaysia’s position as a rising powerhouse in immersive technologies within the region,” said MDEC CEO Anuar Fariz Fadzil.
Launching Malaysia’s first immersive tech association
A defining moment of the event was the debut of the International Interactive & Immersive Society (i3S) — Malaysia’s first dedicated immersive technology association.
The association will cover the full spectrum of the industry, from augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) to mixed reality (MR), extended reality (XR), simulators, and advanced AV hardware. It will also focus on ecosystem collaboration, talent development, commercialisation pathways, and policy contributions to bolster Malaysia’s competitive edge.
This milestone was reinforced by a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Monolith Technologies and Virtualtech Frontier (VTF), aimed at developing next-generation XR experiences that align with Malaysia’s digital economy blueprint.
Heavyweights and fresh talent in the spotlight
From hands-on XR showcases by CelcomDigi, FreeDome, Experiential Design Team, Revenant Reverie, and FaBu Designs, to fresh content from students and independent creators, the event offered a wide spectrum of creativity and technical mastery.
The Strategic Roundtable with Meta Reality Labs added another dimension, convening government agencies, universities, and industry leaders — including MTVET and TalentCorp — to tackle the role of immersive tech in education, skills training, and workforce readiness.
The Matchworks Business Matching Programme also saw impressive traction, with 17 Malaysian solution providers engaging with 43 SMEs and corporates to explore XR-driven improvements in marketing, operations, and customer experience.
2026 return to KL
Backed by a strong sponsor line-up — from Diamond-tier supporters like FreeDome by MAPIM, Revenant Reverie, Warnakala Studios, and XR Associates, to Bronze sponsors including Monolith Technologies and SME Corp — the event proved that Malaysia’s immersive tech sector has both the talent and commercial appetite to go global.
“By launching the nation’s first immersive technology association and cultivating strategic partnerships, we are demonstrating how innovation, talent development, and global collaboration can further move the digital economy forward,” Anuar said.
The organisers have already confirmed that IMMERSE KL will expand to Penang in 2025, before returning to Kuala Lumpur in 2026 — a move that could further cement Malaysia’s place as a regional XR powerhouse.
