Trip.com, GL Play seal strategic tourism MoU

Trip.com and GL Play seal MoU to boost Malaysia’s theme parks, enhancing digital access, ticketing and regional visitor growth.

Global travel service provider Trip.com Group has formalised a milestone Memorandum of Understanding with GL Play, the leisure and hospitality arm of Gamuda Land, to deepen strategic collaboration aimed at driving visitor demand and enhancing guest experiences across several of Malaysia’s leading theme parks.

The expanded partnership will combine Trip.com Group’s global and regional reach, digital travel ecosystem and data-driven marketing capabilities with GL Play’s award-winning portfolio of destinations. The collaboration will focus on flagship attractions including SplashMania Waterpark, Paya Indah Discovery Wetlands, Discovery Park and FunPark.

Together, both parties aim to raise the profile of these attractions among domestic and international travellers, particularly within the Asia market. The move comes at a time when experience-driven travel continues to shape tourism trends, with theme parks and immersive attractions ranking highly among global travellers.

Enhancing digital integration and guest experience

Beyond marketing reach, the partnership will focus on improving the end-to-end customer journey. Trip.com Group and GL Play are working closely to offer multi-language support and multiple payment options, ensuring a seamless experience from ticket purchase through to park entry.

The collaboration leverages existing self-service Trip.com ticketing kiosks at park entrances, with planned enhancements to introduce new ticket options such as priority lane access for selected rides. These upgrades are designed to help visitors optimise their time and overall enjoyment at the parks.

Crucially, the MoU sets the stage for greater system connectivity between both parties. It marks GL Play’s first direct API integration with an online travel agency, enabling more seamless ticketing, diversified product offerings and improved booking convenience.

Mr Chase Liu, General Manager of International Attractions & Tours Business Development, Trip.com Group, said, “Attractions are playing an increasingly important role in how travellers plan their trips, as demand for immersive and entertainment-led experiences continue to grow. Based on our data, theme parks were ranked among the top attractions booked by travellers worldwide for the first quarter of 2026. Through this partnership with GL Play, we’re excited to make it easier than ever for travellers across Asia and beyond to plan, discover and enjoy some of Malaysia’s most distinctive attractions.”

Aligning with Visit Malaysia 2026 ambitions

The strengthened collaboration also aligns with Visit Malaysia Year 2026 and Visit Selangor 2026, both of which seek to boost tourist arrivals and elevate Malaysia’s tourism offerings on the global stage.

Ms Liong Ve Lyn, Senior General Manager, Leisure & Hospitality, Gamuda Land, said, “This strengthened collaboration allows us to deliver more efficient, innovative, and streamlined experiences to our visitors. By working closely with Trip.com Group, we’re focused on drawing more local and international guests to our parks, while further raising Malaysia’s position as a world-class leisure destination.”

To commemorate the expanded partnership, customers who purchase tickets via Trip.com self-service kiosks at SplashMania will enjoy an additional 10 per cent discount at the park’s retail outlet, Maniacs Closet, as well as 15 per cent off at FunPark, Paya Indah Discovery Wetlands and Discovery Park. The limited-time promotion runs until 31 December 2026, subject to terms and conditions.
