Homegrown culture collective Beats & Bru has announced a pair of cultural initiatives in Kuala Lumpur scheduled for late October, combining an introspective contemporary visual art exhibition with an Indian cinema-inspired Halloween gathering.
The back-to-back showcases aim to explore contemporary Malaysian Indian identity, providing dedicated platforms for grassroots artists while inviting the wider public to connect through art, music, and shared social experiences.
Founded by creative producer Kieya, Beats & Bru was established to carve out intentional spaces for local Indian creatives and facilitate cross-community engagement across the Klang Valley’s diverse creative landscape.
Week-long exhibition spotlights identity and community

The collective’s autumn programming launches with The Light We Carry, a week-long, admission-free art exhibition taking place from Oct 24 to Nov 1 at Level 2 of The LINC KL along Jalan Tun Razak.
Operating daily between 11:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., the curated exhibition investigates the multifaceted lived experiences and heritage of the Malaysian Indian diaspora. Beyond visual art displays and site-specific installations, the week-long programme incorporates scheduled creative workshops and an artisan marketplace spotlighting local independent makers, offering visitors an accessible entry point into the community’s contemporary artistic expressions.
According to the collective, the exhibition was conceptualised to offer attendees a reflective and measured space to engage deeply with cultural narratives that are often underrepresented in mainstream urban galleries.
Indian cinema reimagined for Halloween celebration
Concluding the programming on Saturday, Oct 31, Beats & Bru will host Chandrabookhi, an afternoon costume and music showcase running from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at an undisclosed venue in central Kuala Lumpur.
The event reframes traditional Western Halloween festivities through the lens of popular Indian horror cinema and psychological thrillers, drawing thematic and aesthetic inspiration from cult cinematic classics such as Chandramukhi, Anniyan, and Bhool Bhulaiyaa.

The gathering will feature a lineup of homegrown disc jockeys, performance artists, and dance segments, alongside themed food and beverage offerings. Organisers noted that each admission ticket includes a complimentary drink and surprise treats, with free entry extended to children aged 12 and below to encourage intergenerational attendance.
The exact venue location will be communicated directly to registered attendees ahead of the event date.
Organisers stated that both events reflect a dual approach to cultural programming, giving audiences the choice between quiet artistic contemplation and energetic communal celebration.
