Some 200 people led by Gerakan Mansuhkan ISA (GMI), walked from Lake Gardens to the Parliament house to submit a memorandum to the Prime Minister Najib abdul Razak and opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, calling for the immediate abolishment of the Internal Security Act (ISA).
The event organized by Gerakan Mansuhkan ISA (GMI) an umbrella body representing over 80 organisation consisting of NGO’s, human rights groups, student activists , Bar council and many others.
Chairperson of GMI, Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh said, Najib in his Malaysia Day speech on September 16, 2011 announced, among others,that ISA will be abolished and assured that no individual will be detained under this law.
Aliran executive member Dr Subramaniam Pillay, said this is another promise that has not been fulfilled.
“He cannot go around the country saying that BN has fulfilled all the promises,” said Dr Subramaniam.
Fadiah Nadwa binti Fikri, Lawyers for Liberty, said: “We have come to the end of the parliamentary session and nothing has been done to abolish the draconian law.”
The memorandum was received by the opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim. No representative of Prime Ministers department came to accept the memorandum.
