VijayakoneThe government should be more responsible and not to take a lackadaisical attitude towards the Sri Lanka’s violation of human rights, said opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim at parliament house yesterday.
“We oppose any form of discrimination against minorities,” said Anwar, who also stressed that Pakatan’s stand is quite consistent.
Ipoh Barah MP, M Kulasegaran said that the government should review its decision and be the leader to take action against Sri Lanka.
“The Malaysian Government should go further and apologise to the world community in particular to those who were murdered,raped and are still missin” said Kula.
Meanwhile, campaign manager for Lawyer for Liberty, Fadiah Nadwa binti Fikri said she is outraged by how the Malaysian Government has reacted to the issue of Sri Lankan war crimes by having abstained from voting in the UN resolution.
The United Nations Human Rights Council passed a resolution on March 22 urging Sri Lanka to “credibly investigate” allegations of violations during the war against Tamil Tiger separatists in 2009.
The resolution led by United States was adopted with 24 votes in favour, 15 against and eight abstentions including Malaysia.
