“In this country, we have university act which curtails any students from participating in political activities. That has to be done away with”, this was what YB Kulasegaran, MP for Ipoh Barat, has to comment when asked about Prime Minister’s suggestion forming a Youth Parliament.
According to YB Kulasegaran, the Pakatan Rakayat has several times raised the view that university and college university act needs to be amended as the act being a hindrance in bringing about political awareness among youth. He also urged the PM should bring a law to amend the university and college university act to allow students in university to participate in political activities. Besides that, YB Kulasegaran also proposed the voting age to be reduced from 21 to 18 and to have registration of voters through emails which is done in most countries in the world.
