All in a day’s work for Mediums

Each day during the Nine Emperor Gods Festival, Taoist mediums get into a trance to invoke deities into their bodies and they perform various tasks like taking part in processions, healing rituals, firewalking, playing with boiling oil, crossing bridges of blades etc.

At the end of each day or session, the mediums will get out of the trance assisted by many trance masters.  The most important task is that of removing spears from the mediums cheeks and the Chief Trance Master will have this daunting task.

This video is taken on the 2nd day of the Ninth Lunar month (9th October 2010) at the Nan Tian Kong Temple (Kg Baru Ampang) after the procession to welcome the High God Yuan Shui.
