The two arches at the Penang botanic garden have created a lot of objections from the public. One of the arches have in fact tilted at least 15 inches off the vertical.
The tilt is visibly obvious even with the untrained eye, no need for an engineer with a theodolite and plumb line to prove it.
Recently the Ministry of Tourism conducted a survey to gauge public opinion, 70% said the the arches must be demolished due to safety reason.
The authorities are dragging their feet and declare the structure safe and sound despite of the tilt which is leaning more and more towards one side.
