Mount Austin senior citizens mend road using buckets

The residents have reported the matter to the Majlis Bandaraya Johor Bahru (MBJB) city councillor but no action has been taken so far to rectify the road condition

A group of concern senior citizens were spotted holding buckets of stone granites trying to manually patch up a stretch of uneven road at a t-junction in Jalan Mutiara Emas 2/8 in Taman Mount Austin, here, recently.

According to one of the female senior citizen, the uneven road condition has been left unattended for the last six months and she added that there are several such road condition in the housing estate.

She said, the residents have reported the matter to the Majlis Bandaraya Johor Bahru (MBJB) city councillor but no action has been taken so far to rectify the road condition.

When asked by reporter on why they take upon themselves to do road mending, one of them replied and said, it’s for the safety of the motorists.

She added, there have been near misses when motorists tried to avoid the uneven road and we want to do something before any road accidents happen.

The senior citizens lamented that they were sad and angry that the city council failed to attend to their complaint and urged the city council to take immediate action before any traffic mishap happens.
