The new design trophy, sponsored by Tumasek Pewter was presented to JPM Motorsport founder JP Chin by Tumasek Pewter managing director David Tan.

Malaysia is the only country outside Japan to host the Super GT race outside of its home turf and the Super GT 2012 Round 3 Malaysia is the one and only round out of the eight rounds of the Super GT series in Japan.

The launch saw a large and enthusiastic crowd during the day long entertainment programme which included activities such as dance performance by Japan GT Queen Toshimi Takahashi and Malaysia GT Queen Lu Shan, gathering of supercars and GT cars, Super GT Search 2012 semi final, harmonica and saxophonist performance by harmonica world champion Keith Valentine Tan, Sony Playstation 3 Grand Turismo 5 online tournament Malaysia round final and media Q & A session.

In his speech, JP Chin revealed the highlights of the weekend race which has an exciting mix of on and off track activities catering for the whole family such as racing, exotic car shows, kids zone, family entertainment, food festival, dance and live music.

One of the highlights will be the all-day dance competition by 40 dance teams from universities and colleges who will showcase their choreography and dancers.

“So whether you are there to admire the magnificent machines or the breathtaking beautiful race queens, or just to have a fun-filled day out with love ones, the Super GT has something for everyone,” JP Chin said.

“For the first time this year, we have arranged a shuttle service by Skybus from KL Sentral to Sepang International Circuit and back or alternatively the public can call up Sunrise Taxi to get them to the circuit.”

He also announced plan to support the Kids for Kids Foundation by contributing RM50 of every Super GT tickers sold at RM100 (only at roadshows) to three beneficiaries who are Stepping Stones Home, Rumah Kanak-Kanak Angels and Agathian’s Shelter.

JPM Motorsport managing director TJ Chin said: “This year Astro Supersport will broadcast live of the weekend race for about 2 ½ hours and ESPN will broadcast the whole series of the Super GT race in delay telecast usually in between two weeks to a month delay.

“We expect a bigger crowd this year as a lot of people who had been to the race last year know what to expect this year and most of them said they will return if ticket price is reasonable. Well we are giving the fans a better deal this year. The ticket price remains the same as last year at RM100, and for every ticket purchased subsequently we are giving a further 20% discount with selling price of RM80 so this is a very good deal.”

On sales of tickets so far, he said it was good and much better that expected.

“Last year we had crowd attendance of over 50,000 over the two-day weekend. We think a 10%  to 30% increase in crowd attendance this year is a safe conservative figure.”
