From green lung to waste land

This unlawful dumping is the work of irresponsible contractors who find it convenient to dispose their construction wastes here

As one drives along the Penang coastal highway, towards Bayan Lepas, one cannot help but notice piles and piles of construction waste dumped along the roads.

A visit to the site along the highway, at Lebuhraya Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu, showed signs of continuous rubbish dumping.

Construction debris can be seen, rampantly scattered everywhere and bull-dozed into the swampy sea mouth.

The surrounding trees are indiscreetly uprooted in the process negatively impacting the eco-system in the area.

This used to be a patch of lush green land, where goats feed on and graze freely.  It has now become a stoney barren wasteland, devoid of grass and green vegetation.

The culprits continue to flout the law and get away scot-free.

It is high time that the authorities come down hard on these unscrupulous contractors before Penang’s shore line is completely defaced and destroyed by pollution.
