Two men shot dead in an exchange of fire with police after attempting to rob a woman in front of a bank in Wangsa Maju, are believed to be remnant members of the Mamak Gang.
“From the description given by eye-witnesses, we have narrowed down to a few suspects in the same syndicate,” said Kuala Lumpur CID chief Ku Chin Wah in an sms to Bernama, yerterday.
Ku said besides the two killed, another suspect who managed to escape in Tuesday’s incident, were believed to have been involved in at least 15 bank robberies and other crimes in Selangor involving losses of about RM1.1 million.
“From the witnesses’ account, the escaped suspect is believed to be injured in the shootout with police,” he said.
In the 2.50pm incident, upon receiving a bank robbery report, police rushed to the location before chasing after a car that was speeding away with the suspects inside it firing several shots at the police, triggering an exchange of fire.
The suspects’ car later skidded and hit another car in Jalan Madrasah, near the Taman Melati LRT station, not far from the shootout.
The two men seated in the front seats of the car were found dead while their accomplice managed to flee.
Both dead robbers were found to have a string of previous criminal records.
