The Kelantan people who are eligible for the Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia (BR1M) are expected to receive the payment before the Chinese New Year celebration on Jan 23, International Trade and Industry Minister Mustapa Mohamed said yesterday.
He said the Kelantan Federal Development Department (JPP) was making the preparations to make the payment earlier than the scheduled date, which was Feb 15.
From the 600,000 forms issued in Kelantan, 260,000 forms were returned for processing, he told reporters after presenting the 1Malaysia Book Voucher, worth RM625,000, to students of Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) yesterday.
Mustapa, who is also the Kelantan Federal Action Council Chairman, said 13,500 students in institutions of higher learning in Kelantan would receive the 1Malaysia book voucher as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in the 2012 Budget.
He advised the students to protect the country’s image by not getting involve with quarters out to create disorder in the country.
