Police are gathering intelligence on the rally planned to be held in the city on Jan 9, said Internal Security and Public Order director Salleh Mat Rasid.
He said currently police were tracking down those distributing posters, stringing banners and blogs inciting people to attend the rally to support Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, who is also the de facto leader of Parti Keadilan Rakyat.
Interviewed on TV3’s ‘Soal Jawab’ talkshowlast night, Salleh said police had to handle the matter carefully as the planned rally could pose a threat to public security.
He said so far police’s intelligence showed an illegal assembly was not only planned to be held outside the Jalan Duta courts that day but elsewhere in the city as well.
The Kuala Lumpur High Court is scheduled to deliver its verdict on Anwar’s sodomy trial on Jan 9.
