Johor Bahru: Public involved in Draft Development Plan

Among the issues brought up were the request for more green facility and parks in the city’s residential areas, the preservation of historical buildings and a concern for environmental issues in the city.

 

As a response to the public comment on the Johor Bahru City Development plan exhibited in April – May 2011, a special call for the final public hearing was held at MBJB (Majlis Bandaraya Johor Bahru ) JB City Town Council recently.

The charman of the committee was Datuk Hj. Ahmad Zahri Bin Jamil.

In response to the pulic hearing, out of 115 who had submitted comments and ammendment proposals, only 68 turn up for the hearing.

Among the issues brought up were the request for more green facility and parks in the city’s residential areas, the preservation of historical buildings and a concern for environmental issues in the city.

According to Hj. Mohd. Azam Bin Mohd. Abid, Director of  the Jabatan Perancangan Bandar dan Desa Johor,  this is the final draft of development plans in Johor Bahru before confirmation.

The development of Johor Bahru had been brought to public attention since 2008.

Ku Liang Tong, Manager of Johor Bahru Tiong-Hua Association is satisfied with the development of the plans as it preserves heritage buildings, temples, and the Chinese cemetery in the city.

The public however, had limited exposure to the development plans as publicity was limited and reached a restricted amount of people. Less than 500 people attended the exhibition held mid last year.
