The year 2011 is coming to a close and with that Rukun Tetangga (RT) Section 20A threw a party for residents to celebrate the end of the year recently at the Taman Aman basketball court in Jalan 20/19, Petaling Jaya.
About 200 people came to enjoy an evening of sumptuous buffet, fun clowns and children’s games in the spirit of close camaraderie among the different races staying in the neighbourhood.
“This event is part of our continuous effort to foster better neighbourliness by bringing the residents here together, getting to know one another more closely and helping each other combat crime together,” said Section 20A Rukun Tetangga (RT) chairman Cassian Baptist.
On the security front, he said: “At this moment, we have everything under control with the presence of the police. From time to time the police attend meetings with us and act immediately on any concerns we have pertaining crime and safety.”
“We also conduct our nightly patrolling five times a week in the neighbourhood with the cooperation of the police and RELA and this is good for community safety.”
Guest of honour Kampung Tunku state assemblyman Lau Weng San in his speech said: “This is a great event for bringing the residents of various races and from all walks of life together to forge stronger ties and strengthen good neighbourliness.”
“During my three years serving as elected representative here, I observed that when you have an active association on the ground, you find that a lot of issues and complaints faced by the residents can be solved with immediacy and much more effectively. If you do not have one, then it will be very tedious and troublesome and takes a longer time,” added Lau who pledged RM1,000 to the Rukun Tetangga for the event.
“I hope the Section 20A’s Rukun Tetangga can play a bigger role in maintaining the harmony of this community.”
On complaints by residents who are facing a lot of problem with rubbish collection lately, Lau said he had given the contact numbers of the contractors serving in Section 20 and 22 and hope the affected residents will take the initiative to contact the contractors concerned to solve the problem.
Also present at the event were Section 21 SEA Park Residents Association chairman Gan Keng, Rukun Tetangga Section 22 chairman G.Rajendran, MBPJ councillor Jeeyaselan T. Anthony and OCS of SEA Park police station Inspector Gunam Resul bin Gulam Mohammad.
MBPJ councillor for the area Jeeyaselan T. Anthony said: “It’s a great function which provids an opportunity for the residents of different races to come together and foster a closer rapport.
“We wish that more functions like this will be organized. Section 20A RT is one of the most active in this zone within the Kampung Tunku constituency and as a local councillor I have always cooperated with this RT and they are working well with me. We have done some projects together in this zone and we hope to continue to cooperate in future for the benefit of the residents.”
The evening ended with exciting lucky draws with smiling residents bringing their fabulous prizes home.
