KTM Intercity services in the north sector were disrupted after an express train derailed at KM103.75 Padang Rengas-Taiping yesterday.
Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) said the incident at 1.45pm involved Ekspres Sinaran Utara (No 10) travelling from KL Sentral to Butterworth.
About 160 passengers were transferred to Padang Rengas station and no casualties were reported, said KTMB in a statement.
KTM Intercity services affected are Ekspres Sinaran Utara (No 10) that was cancelled and all passengers transferred from Padang Rengas station to Butterworth station.
Ekspress Sinaran Utara (No 11) was terminated at Bukit Mertajam station and passengers were transferred to KL Sentral station.
Ekspres Rakyat (No 2) from KL Sentral to Butterworth was cancelled and feeder bus service from KL Sentral to Butterworth was available for passengers travelling from Woodlands/JB Sentral.
Ekspres Senandung Langkawi (No 22) was terminated at Ipoh station and passengers will take feeder buses to Taiping station to continue by train to Padang Besar/Hat Yai.
“Ekspres Senandung Langkawi (No 21) was terminated at Taiping station and passengers will take feeder buses to Ipoh station to proceed by train to KL Sentral station.” KTM said the derailment caused the cancellation of Ekpress Senandung Mutiara (No 22 & 23).
It apologised for inconvenience caused and passengers can get refund for tickets of affected services at railway stations.
