Johor Bahru Alzheimer Disease Association (JOBADA) is an NGO providing day care for clients who are Alzheimer’s afflicted.
It also provides information on Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, offering support for caregivers and their respective families and raising community awareness.
Most of the clients are referred by hospitals. Amongst their clients is a couple from Singapore.
Presently, there are 3 paid staff and about 10 active volunteers.
A client of JOBADA, Teng Buck Seah, 84, looks forward going to the centre because he enjoys the companionship and activities there.
Pang Oi Lin, 70, a volunteer since its registration in 2004 said that the satisfaction and joy she get when a client remembers her is what made her stayed as a volunteer till today.
JOBADA vice-chairperson Harjeet Kaur, 66, the emphasize on the dignity one should give to the elders especially those afflicted with Alzheimer’s because they had contributed to the society at large when they were in their younger days.
She appealed for a donation of a van because their present van is old and the van is needed to ferry the clients to and fro the centre.
Faridah Hanem, 70, the deputy chairman urged the family members of their clients to be more active in the activities offered at the centre.
