A total of 1,189 SRJK Tamil pupils who scored 7As in the recent Primary School Evaluation Test (UPSR) will each be given a RM500 cash incentive by the Maju Institute for Education Development (MIED).
In disclosing this, MIED chairman S. Samy Vellu also expressed happiness with the increase of 300 more Year 6 students from SRJK Tamil in scoring 7As, as compared to 889 students last year.
“This year, we targeted to have, at least 1,000 (to score 7As,) but it went up to 1,189. So, each of the students who passed with flying colours will be given RM500,” he said after officiating a new building in SRJK Tamil Jalan San Peng yesterday.
Samy Vellu, who is also Malaysia’s Special Envoy (Infrastructure) to India and South Asia, said this was the right time to reward deserving pupils and encourage more Tamil school students to excel in the examination.
Since 2000, MIED has been giving a RM500 cash incentive and a trophy to each Tamil school pupils who scored 7As in the UPSR.
However, last year, there was no cash incentive to pupils who scored 7As, he said.
On the recent MIED Annual General Meeting held last Monday, Samy Vellu declined comment.
