Keningau beauty, Angelly Chang has beaten 13 other contestant from all over Sabah, to be crowned as the first ever Sino Queen in the first Sino Bumiputera Sabah Beauty Queen contest on November 11, 2011.
Angelly, 20 emerged triumphant over first runner up, Marianne Lim Siew Yee, 21, from Kuala Penyu and Evelyn Lim Lee Gek, 22, form Lahad Datu.
The first ever Sino Beauty Queen competition had participants representing all 13 districts of Sabah and was held at the Covered Tennis Court, Sutera Harbour, Kota Kinabalu.
One of the prerequisites of the beauty contest is the contestant must be of the child of a marriage between a Chinese, and a Kadazan, Dusun, Murut. Hence, they are known as Sino Bumiputera.
“We are so grateful seeing the attendance and support we are getting tonight. Of course I must congratulate my organising committee headed by Damian Chai, the organising chairperson, said Johnny Goh, the association president.
Michael Asang, who represented Deputy Minister Joseph Pairin Kitingan officiated the event. The November 11 has been also declared as the Sino Day, in support of the Sino Bumiputera community in Sabah.
