The secretariat of the National Service Alumni will set up a National Service Volunteer Brigade to carry out humanitarian missions and activities.
National Service Training Council Chairman Dr Tiki Lafe said the setting up of such a brigade would offer an opportunity to former NS trainees to use the skills and knowledge gained while in NS training, to good use.
“The brigade will be set up soon and its first assignment will be to help out flood victims,” he told reporters after visiting NS trainees at the NS Krisma Camp Shooting range in Mantin near here today together with NS Department director-general Abdul Hadi Awang Kechil.
Tiki said during floods, the brigade would work with RELA, Civil Defence Force (JPAM) and the Fire and Rescue Department to help victims.
“With the setting up of the brigade, the 500,000 odd former NS trainees will be on standby to provide any kind of assistance voluntarily,” said Tiki who urged those interested to register at a camp closest to their residence.
