Two accounting firms appointed by the Selangor government will carry out auditing of the accounts and operations of Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) within this week.
Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said once completed, the audit findings would be announced to explain allegation that the state government-owned water treatment plants managed by Syabas were not producing sufficient treated water supply.
“This (allegation) is a technical issue. We will make an explanation after the audit and I will personally announce the audit findings,” he told reporters after chairing the state executive council weekly meeting here today.
Prior to this, Abdul Khalid was reported as saying that the state government had appointed Messrs Atkins and Halcrow to carry out auditing of the accounts and operations of Syabas to avert water shortage in the state without being dependent on Langat 2 Water Treatment Plant (Langat 2) project.
In other development, the menteri besar said the state government would also organise briefing sessions for the public to learn about the land premium scheme introduced last June.
“The scheme is an option because land owners can choose the payment method based on the old calculation. We will not force land owner to opt for the new scheme, but instead, we will leave it to them to decide based on their own abilities,” he said.
Abdul Khalid said the state government was also prepared for a debate if certain quarters found it hard to understand the scheme after the briefings.
