WAO celebrates 30 years of empowering women

PETALING JAYA – The Women’s Aid Organisation (WAO) celebrated its 30th anniversary in Section 14, Petaling Jaya this September 30, 2012. [VIDEO]

The Women’s Aid Organisation (WAO) celebrated its 30th anniversary in Section 14, Petaling Jaya this September 30, 2012.

Themed celebrating 30-years of Empowering Women, executive director, Ivy Josiah said that in 1982, WAO broke the silence of domestic violence when it opened its first shelter for battered wives, women and children.

30 years on, said Ivy, domestic violence is still a problem, however, the organisation is growing stronger yet providing all kinds of services to extend aid to women in need.

Today WAO seeks to celebrate its success in thanking the people who have volunteered, worked for and donated to WAO.

Also celebrating the brave women who have trusted WAO by coming forward and seeking protection from domestic violence.

Clad in bright red WAO t-shirts, many volunteers were seen selling odds and ends to raise funds for the organisation.

Many men were seen at the event showing their support for WAO.
