Photoblog: As Pengerang struggles for survival

PENGERANG – The woes of Pengerang saw an estimated crowd of 8000 gather in the small town. Stories of fishermen, durian farmers, school students – all to be displaced were heard during the gathering.

An estimated crowd of 8,000 people attended the solidarity attendees decked in green, gathered at four Bay lobster Square to hold a peaceful assembly last Sunday.

Braving the searing heat and undeterred by several rounds of harassment, thousands have descended on the small coastal town of Pengerang today to protest against the Petronas Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development (Rapid) project.

Organisers estimated the turnout today at 8,000, while both the media and the police were more conservative with an estimates of 3,000.

As the people of Malaysia united for a safer future.
