In a ‘Jamuan Mesra Rakyat’ dinner on 7 October 2012, Bayan Baru MCA vice-chariman, Ooi Chuan Aik, appeal to the near 4000 diners to let them rule again under the Bayan Baru constituency.
Under Bayan Baru constituency, the Bayan Baru parliamentary seat is now held by independent Zahrain, while the three DUN seats of Pantai Jerejak, Batu Uban and Batu Maung, are held by PKR candidates.
Ooi Chuan Aik was speaking at the D’Piazza Hall at a dinner for Bayan Baru residents, organized by Barisan Nasional Bayan Baru Parlimen.
The special guest was Chua Soi Lek, MCA President. The Penang Barisan Nasional chairman, Teng Chang Yeow was also present, alongside with several others Barisan Nasional state leaders.
Teng Chang Yeow had also called on all Barisan Nasional leaders to lend their support to help reclaim Bayan Baru.
He was grateful for Chua Soi Lek’s presence to support them in their quest to fight for Bayan Baru.
Chua Soi Lek reiterate what Teng said during his speech, when he stressed that all component party leaders must unite and cooperate as their common enemies are PAS, DAP and PKR.
Chua hit out at the Penang state government for not fulfilling most of its promises, made since last four years.
“They promised to improve and upgrade public transport. Did that happen? They promised to have all leasehold land converted to freehold. What happened to that? Don’t forget they also promise to set up a Tiger Park and build an underground tunnel from island to the mainland.”
Chua was especially critical of DAP, mentioning that DAP’s best achievement is fooling the people into thinking they are not corrupted and that they practice good and clean governance.
“They boast that as they are not corrupted, they have RM1.2bil, but they neglect to mention that the Barisan Nasional administration had left behind RM900mil. They claimed that the state’s revenue has gone up but stop short in informing the people that they did this by selling state land.”
“According to the Auditor-General report, Penang did not build any affordable housing units for the 100,000 families who were on the affordable housing waiting list between 2008 and 2010.”
Chua called on the people of Penang to reject political violence, that the opposition like to use. He said that the opposition is fond of demonstrations and provocations to incite the people to turn against Barisan Nasional.
He promised that, if they were given the mandate in the next general election to rule Penang, they would provide the people of Penang with excellent service.
