Police drug busts netted an assortment of narcotics estimated at RM201.11 million in 132,851 drug related arrests in the first 10 months of this year.
At a press conference here today Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director Noor Rashid Ibrahim said syabu was the most at 679.34kg and valued about RM170 million.
“Apart from that we also seized 470.22kg of heroin of various grades at more than RM15 million and almost two million Eramin 5 pills worth approximately RM1.4 million,” he added.
Noor Rashid said 119 drug arrests were made at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport with Iranians being the highest number at 53, followed by 43 Nigerians, four locals and the rest made up of other nationalities.
“A number of these foreigners were students, tourists, and workers used as drug mules to smuggle the substances from their country of origin when they go back on vacation.”
The success of the past 10 months will spur the police to step up enforcement, gather information through surveillance and work with the public to eradicate drug trafficking, he said.
