Police arrested a civil servant last night for having RM250,000 worth of fire-crackers at his rented house in Taman Seri Bahtera, Cheras in Kuala Lumpur.
Cheras police chief ACP Mohan Singh Tara Singh said today the 35-year-old man was picked up at 10 pm following a tip-off from the public.
Police found various types of fire-crackers which are believed to have been smuggled in from a neighbouring country for sale during the Deepavali and Christmas festive seasons, he said.
Mohan Singh said the man was being remanded for four days from today.
He said the case was being investigated under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957 for possession and sale of fire-crackers. The law provides for a maximum jail term of seven years or a fine of up to RM10,000, or both, upon conviction.
