PKNS sports complex redevelopment plans concern residents

Many SS7 Kelana Jaya residents are concerned about the proposed redevelopment of the PKNS Sports Complex.

The proposal was first discussed at an informal residents meeting that I attended earlier this year that was also attended by PKNS officials.

The residents are concerned as the Sports Complex has been used for years for sports activities and community gatherings. Many football, cricket and rugby players were groomed; even the 1998 Commonwealth Games cricket matches took place here. Clearly, the Sports Complex has a big community and historical value not only for the local residents but Malaysia as a whole.

Furthermore, any development would have an adverse impact on the traffic situation in the area which is already bad and will also see the completion of further high-density new developments: Icon City, Paradigm and others.

As the latest proposal only came about recently when I was away from the country, I was unable to meet the residents or attend the recent peaceful protest held on 16 October 2011.

In order to understand the proposal, I met with PKNS officials on Monday 17 October. This morning, I met with the Selamatkan Padang Rakyat committee members who are leading the protest against the redevelopment.

The facts of the matter are as such:

PKNS applied for the title to the plots of land that make up the Sports Complex in 2006 under the previous BN Government to enable PKNS to develop the land commercially.

There are three titles which were issued to PKNS between 2006 and 2008 for institutional and commercial development.

PKNS has now made an application to MBPJ to develop the Sports Complex, which in turn has attracted a strong protest from the residents.

I am organising a town-hall meeting with SS7 residents on the redevelopment of the Sports Complex this Saturday 22 October 11.00 am at Dewan Sri Nilam, PKNS Sports Complex.

I hope residents can come to the meeting to voice out their opinions about the project.

I promise to do whatever I can to find the best solution for the residents and hope PKNS which is chaired by Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim can also re-look at this project by also taking into account the views expressed by the residents.

Ramai penduduk SS7 Kelana Jaya prihatin dengan cadangan pembangunan semula Kompleks Sukan PKNS.

Cadangan ini mula dibincangkan di dalam perbincangan tidak formal dengan penduduk awal tahun ini yang turut dihadiri pegawai-pegawai PKNS.

Penduduk prihatin memandangkan Kompleks Sukan ini telah digunakan untuk aktiviti sukan dan masyarakat selama bertahun-tahun. Ramai jaguh sukan bola sepak, kriket dan ragbi dilahirkan di sini, malah perlawanan Kriket Sukan Komanwel 1998 juga dilangsungkan di sini.

Jelas sekali Kompleks Sukan ini mempunyai nilai komuniti dan sejarah yang cukup besar bukan sahaja bagi masyarakat setempat tetapi negara.

Apatah lagi, sebarang pembangunan akan mengeruhkan keadaan trafik kawasan ini yang sudahpun berada di dalam keadaan teruk dan akan menyaksikan beberapa projek kepadatan tinggi yang baru: Icon City, Paradigm dan lain-lain lagi.

Memandangkan cadangan terbaru ini hanya diutarakan ketika saya berada di luar negara, saya tidak dapat bertemu dengan penduduk ataupun menghadiri bantahan aman yang diadakan pada 16 Oktober 2011.

Bagi memahami cadangan ini, saya bertemu dengan pegawai-pegawai PKNS pada Isnin 17 Oktober. Pagi ini saya bertemu dengan AJK Selamatkan Padang Rakyat yang memimpin bantahan terhadap pembangunan semula ini.

Berikut merupakan fakta-fakta kes ini:  PKNS memohon geran untuk plot-plot tanah di Kompleks Sukan ini pada 2006 di bawah Kerajaan BN sebelum ini bagi membolehkan PKNS memajukan tanah ini secara komersial.

Ada tiga geran yang dikeluarkan kepada PKNS antara 2006 hingga 2008 untuk pembangunan institusi dan komersial.

PKNS kini telah membuat permohonan kepada MBPJ untuk membangunkan Kompleks Sukan ini yang kemudiannya menarik perhatian penduduk.

Saya akan menganjurkan dialog dengan penduduk SS7 tentang pembangunan semula Kompleks Sukan ini pada 10 pagi Sabtu 22 Oktober di Dewan Sri Nilam, Kompleks Sukan PKNS.

Saya berharap penduduk dapat hadir bagi menyuarakan pandangan mereka tentang projek ini.

Saya berjanji untuk berbuat apa sahaja bagi mencari penyelesaian terbaik bagi penduduk dan berharap PKNS yang dipengerusikan oleh Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim dapat mengkaji semula cadangan ini dengan mengambilkira pandangan penduduk.
