Our children and statutory rape

JOHOR BAHRU – A forum organised by Johor Women’s League (Jewel) and Hospital Permai Johor Bahru entitled Our Children and Statutory Rape was held for public awareness. [VIDEO]

A forum organised by Johor Women’s League (Jewel) and Hospital Permai Johor Bahru  entitled “Our Children and Statutory Rape” for the public was held on the October 13, 2012.

The form saw managing director of Rumah Jagaan Kanak Kanak NurSalam Dr Hartini Zainudin as one of the speakers who stressed during the forum that in court proceedings for statutory rape cases in our country, there is no mention of the victims and are not even heard of in the court of appeal.

She also said the Act of Law for the children is more than 100-years-old and should be change along with times.

Rumah Jagaan Kanak Kanak NurSalam was founded the one only 24-hour crisis center in Chow Kit for children under 18 in Malaysia.

The center focuses on providing marginalized children with basic needs as well as counseling and protection services, amongst others.

Many children are abused, neglected, trafficked, and abandoned.

Many others are stateless, having no documents because they were trafficked.

The center is a collaboration effort between Yayasan Salam Malaysia and the Department of Children’s Welfare, KL.
