The 2011 FreedomFilmFest (FFF) organised by Komas ( Pusat Komunikasi Masyarakat ) will be screening Malaysian documentaries  in Johor Bahru and Muar this coming weekend as part of its nationwide roadshow.
The FFF road-show took off in Petaling Jaya early this month, followed by screenings in Penang and Perak. After Johor, the festival heads to Kuching and Miri at the end of October.
The 2011 FFF has produced over 20 documentaries depicting various human rights issues in Malaysia, ranging from child refugees and the history of Malaya, to the country’s political climate change.
Komas is an NGO established in 1993 to give voice to marginalised communities. The FFF was first held in October 2003, and has since become an annual event.
This year, two documentaries, Huruf J, about Muslim women divorcees, and Lot ,Umah Am, about the Orang Seletar’s loss of their homes in Johor, will be screened.
Screening details are as follows:
Saturday, 22 Oct, 8.00 to 11.00pm, at the Tropical Inn, Johor Bahru.
Sunday, 23 Oct, 8.00 to 11.00pm, at JBM 109, Kampung Parit Bulat Darat, Parit Jawa, Muar.
