Action will be taken against local traders and hawkers found leasing or renting out their business lots to foreigners, especially at Deepavali bazaars, said Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Deputy Minister Saravanan.
He said information received indicate that businessmen who were issued licence by the Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur for RM124, to do business at Deepavali bazaars, have instead sold the licences to foreigners for RM4,000.
The Ministry has received numerous complaints and there would be an immediate investigation and if found true, there would be immediate action against them, he said.
“This is my final warning to those who are carrying out such activities.
“The DBKL will carry out checks at such bazaars and goods of offenders will be sealed,” he told reporters after chairing a meeting between the ministry, traders in Lebuh Ampang and DBKL on security measures during Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak’s visit to Lebuh Ampang on Oct 22.
He added that licences for Deepavali bazaars were issued to traders from Sept 25 to Oct 25.
Saravanan said to commemorate Najib’s visit to the site where Indians first started to do trade even before Independence, a number of roads, including Lebuh Ampang would be closed for a specific time.
Meanwhile, in conjunction with Najib’s visit, 14 traders and florists who have been selling handicraft and flowers along the roads under umbrellas would be given stalls to carry out their business.
