A lorry driver was killed when a group of youths attacked him with sticks and hard objects near Bentong yesterday.

A lorry driver was killed when a group of youths, believed to comprise former schoolmates, attacked him with sticks and hard objects near Bentong yesterday.

V. Mogandesh, 28, died on the spot in the incident near a restaurant at Taman Hijau in Karak. He sustained head injuries.

The body was found near a car, believed to have belonged to the victim. The front and rear windscreens of the vehicle were found smashed while the door handles were prised open.

Mogandesh, from Jerantut, was said to have arrived in the car near the restaurant where the group was waiting about 4am.

In a quarrel that ensued, the group attacked him. Bentong acting police chief Deputy Superintendent Mohamad Mansor Mohamad Noor said, nine men in their 20s and 30s, were remanded for seven days to facilitate investigations into the murder.

“The victim and the suspects were believed to have studied in the same school. The incident (attack) could have been the result of a misunderstanding,” he said when contacted by Bernama.

He said the body was sent to the Bentong Hospital.
