The 2011 Dikir Barat and Drum Festival will be held on Oct 17 in Kota Bharu to highlight the cultural activities of the various races in the country, State National Culture and Art director Ismail Yusof said.
The event is organised by the Information Communication and Culture Ministry with the cooperation of the Tourism Ministry through the Kelantan Department of Culture and Art.
“The festival hopes to gather 1,011 Dikir Barat and drums enthusiasts,” he said in a statement.
It will be declared open by Information Communication and Culture Minister Rais Yatim and Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen at the Kelantan Culture and Art Department Auditorium Complex.
It will feature the performances of 50 Dikir Barat groups from 11 districts in Kelantan.
